Representation of The Estate of Josep Grau-Garriga
Josep Grau-Garriga was born in 1929 in Sant Cugat del Vallès. He lived and worked in Catalonia until 1992, and then in the French region of Angers until he died in 2011.
A major pioneer innovator in the art of tapestry and a prominent figure in the post-War Spanish art scene, he is better known for his awe-inspiring tapestries. However, with a free-thinking and innovative spirit, the artist experimented across different disciplines such as painting, drawing, performance, sculpture and installation; often using these mediums simultaneously.
At a very young age, he became involved in tapestry art, a field that he would radically transform becoming one of the leading proponents of the contemporary textile art movement worldwide.
Sabrina Amrani will present his work for the first time in ARCOmadrid 2024 and will host a solo show in the gallery in May 2024.
