The Essence of the Holy Qur’an
Dear brothers and sisters,
Nobody on earth can love you more than our parents. Parental love is the only love that is truly selfless, unconditional and forgiving. No language can express the power, and beauty, and heroism, and majesty of a parent’s love. Our parents as a team provided for all our needs: physical, educational, psychological, and in many instances, religious, moral, and spiritual. A father’s goodness is higher than the mountain, a mother’s goodness deeper than the sea. So all religions and all societies have given parents an honorable status.
Our indebtedness to our parents is so immense that it is not possible to repay it fully. The position of parents, and the mutual obligations and responsibilities, have been addressed in Islam in great detail. References to parents have been made at least 15 times in the Holy Qur’an. And there are numerous traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to guide us in this matter. So, it becomes obligatory for us to show the utmost kindness, respect, and obedience to our parents.
According to the above verse, gratitude to Allah and to parents go hand in hand. Gratitude to Allah is incomplete without showing gratitude to one’s parents. So, we should not say even the word ‘Uff’ to our parents. We should pray to Allah that He guide us to be respectful, kind, and obedient to our parents, and that we continue to show them humility regardless of the power, position, wealth, and influence we may possess. Keep in mind that, we never know the love of a parent till we become parents ourselves.
