The Essence of the Holy Qur’an
How to select of a company
Keep yourself content with those who call upon their Lord, morning and evening, seeking His pleasure, and do not let your eyes pass beyond them. Do you seek the pomp and glitter of the world? Do not follow him whose heart We have caused to be heedless of Our remembrance, and who follows his desires, and whose attitude is of excess. (Surah No.18, Al-Kahf, Verse No.28)
Sincerity and devotion hold greater significance than wealth
Dear brothers and sisters, the Quraish elites once advised the Prophet (peace be upon him) that they were unwilling to associate with individuals of lower social standing such as Bilal, Suhayb, Ammar, Khabbab, and Ibn Masud (may Allah be pleased with them). They proposed that if the Prophet (peace be upon him) were to distance himself from these individuals, they would then be willing to visit him and learn about his message. In response, Allah conveyed to the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he should find contentment in the company of those who had gathered around him solely to seek Allah’s pleasure and remember Him at all times of the day and night. There was no valid reason for him to prioritize the company of those who relied solely on their wealth and possessions over his sincere and devoted followers.
Wealth holds no significance in the sight of Allah and His messenger
Once again, although this guidance appears to be directed at the Prophet (peace be upon him), it serves as a message to the Quraysh elites, conveying that their wealth, opulence, and self-importance carry no weight in the eyes of Allah and His messenger. In comparison to them, those who were poor yet sincerely devoted to Allah held much greater value. Simultaneously, Allah, the Almighty, has instructed us not to follow those who neglect their Creator.”
