Photo Exhibition The Holy Month of Ramadan
The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) and StudioBasel are proud to present ‘The Holy Month of Ramadan: A Visual Celebration – Capture the Spirit of Ramadan’ exhibition for the second consecutive year.
This visual celebration of the holy month, through photography, aims to educate and enlighten millions of viewers around the word. It is an integral part of the “Capture the Spirit of Ramadan” initiative, founded under the context of ‘Bridging Cultures & Inspiring Creativity’. It provides a unique opportunity as it offers an international platform for photographers around the world to showcase the beauty of Islam through its art, architecture and cultural diversity. Drawn from an amazing collection of Islamic themed photographs of Ramadan of Studio Basel, the exhibition features 66 works by a number of photographers. These photographers range from aspiring and talented amateurs to professional photojournalists and fine art photographers from over 60 countries including Malaysia. The exhibition hopes to deliver a cross-cultural and inter-faith message that portrays the essence of Ramadan.
IAMM has also published a catalogue featuring over 300 outstanding photographs including winners of the competitions since its inception in 2011. The catalogue features artistic images by photographers from Indonesia, India, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Egypt, Turkey, and many more. It is a tribute to the success of the photographers who took part in this competition. This catalogue is the one and only photography publication solely dedicated to the holy month of Ramadan that tells a wonderful story about Ramadan around the world through exceptional photographs.
This exhibition will not have been possible without the generous sponsorship of CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad. With its support, IAMM is pleased to invite the public to participate in various educational activities arranged in conjunction with this exhibition. One of the activities is the CIMB Junior Photography Competition, which aims to cultivate the interest of younger generations in photography. Malaysian and permanent resident aged between 10 and 18 years old are welcomed to participate in this competition with the theme, “Moments of Aidilfitri”. The submission period will open on July 1 and will run until August 9, 2015.
‘The Holy Month of Ramadan: A Visual Celebration – Capture the Spirit of Ramadan’ exhibition will be on display at the Open Space Gallery of Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia until August 31, 2015.
