SLEEP, LITTLE FRIEND -Md. Kausar Uddin Ahmed
Sleep, little friend, close your eyes,
The stars will smile in quiet skies.
No more books and no more pen,
You’ll never have homework again.
Your bag is still, your shoes at rest,
Heaven will hold you best.
The fire was loud but you’re now free,
No more fear and no need to flee.
Sleep, little friend, you won’t be late,
No schoolbell rings and no heavy gate.
No shouting now and no lines to keep,
Soft winds will guard your golden sleep.
With small hands and heart so pure,
Heaven is yours, forever sure.
You’ll fly so high where angels meet,
With gardens blooming at your feet.
Sleep, little friend, your pain is past,
Your days of joy have come at last.
We’ll miss you more than words can say,
But know you’re just a smile away.
[This rhyme is written in memory of the tragic fighter jet crash incident that took place at a school in Uttara, Dhaka, Bangladesh, on July 21, 2025. Many innocent children lost their lives in the accident. The poem is a tribute to those young souls.]
