Dear Readers,
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah. We hope this message finds you in good health and spirits, blessed by Allah who grants us the joy of children through the sacred bond of parenthood. This miraculous gift continues the stewardship of our Earth, highlighting the critical importance of every child to our world. Indeed, the role of children is crucial in the enduring task of nurturing our planet, securing its health and sustainability for generations to come.
However, when children bear the brunt of climate change and global conflicts, the very essence of our Earth is at risk. The intentional harm inflicted on the youngest among us can lead to irreparable damage, leaving indelible scars on both the land and in the hearts of humanity. Those who target children stand against the divine plan, positioning themselves as foes of the Creator, who oversees His creation and may intervene when His intentions are thwarted.
It is with heavy hearts that we witness the loss of young lives in climatologically vulnerable areas such as Bangladesh, the Maldives, Tuvalu, and beyond. The responsibility for these tragedies does not lie with the victims; it rests on the shoulders of climate change, primarily driven by the actions of developed nations. The infliction of suffering on innocent children not only causes immediate harm but also sows seeds of anger within them.
The increase in cortisol, a stress hormone, in response to these adversities is a clear indicator of a mounting wave of global anger and sorrow. This collective emotional upheaval can lead to a thirst for retribution among those who have lost loved ones, fueling a cycle of violence and hatred.
For these reasons, we have chosen to shed light on the plight of children affected by climate change and conflict as the cover story for this issue of Youth Wave. Our goal is to highlight the struggles faced by people across the globe who are mourning and to advocate for peace and protection for the most vulnerable among us.
We eagerly anticipate connecting with you again next month, when we will delve into more pressing global issues. Until then, may peace and prosperity be with you.
