Mediterranean Shared & Divided
Mediterranean – Shared & Divided is a visual art project about in the Mediterranean area. This interdisciplinary project explores photography, mixed-media and installation to create contemporary motions of this space.
The project intends to promote a dialogue among communities between Sarajevo, Tunisia, Istanbul and Cairo. In the fragmentation of Mediterranean belt due to the hard European migration politics, artist Ziad Zitoun proposes new visual artworks to contribute to pluralism, diversity and multicultural dialogue. The project has 10 collections – 74 art work.
Ziad Zitoun
Ziad Zitoun is a contemporary visual artist. He makes an interdisciplinary work with video art, installations and mixed media. He started his creations in 2004 with video art. He follows with video dance works, photography and mixed-media documents. Ziad Zitoun speaks about recurrent socials thematic of immigrants & human rights. His semantic turn around topics of migrants rights, trans-borders movements, refugees history… As a Tunisian immigrant’s child living in Europe, he cares about fundamental rights of clandestine people. Grown between two Mediterranean’s sea sides, he creates bridges among communities. Ziad Zitoun combines different visual languages for gathering lines and patterns to allow a social message with a strong visual narration.
General objectives
of the project:
l To collect visual elements on mosaics, tiles, fabrics and ceramics with the aid of photography in order to digitize them and create new patterns in vector pictures. Also we will search books and documents and digitize them to add more contents and develop artistic innovations on Mediterranean’s thematic.
l To catalyze the cultural dialogue between people living on the Mediterranean’s shores to improve mutual understanding, cooperation and solidarity among members of Mediterranean area. The project will respect the convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions. Promoting Mediterranean area by the medium of roaming exhibitions and publications in magazines of contemporary art.
l To generate agreements with art institutions, press and NGO-s with a view to do sensibilization and inform about the artists and partners about Mediterranean situation, refugee rights and fundamental freedom to move. n
