Dear subscribers
Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Hope this issue will find you well by the grace of Almighty Allah.
It’s been 118 years since the start of Nobel Prize in 1901. It is undoubtedly the most prestigious prize in the world. As every prize has an impact on the society of the laureates so the world system much owes to the prizes awarded to art, culture, literature, journalism, physiology, chemistry, physics etc. Towering academicians, artists, artistes, singers, rights activists and others, who buttress the Bretton Woods System of monetary management and international agencies like the United Nations, have big impacts on the world. But as we see the world is fraught with different problems like war, concentration of wealth, poverty, ever-widening gap between the poor and rich so we are in doubt about the award winners have real impact on the common people of the world. If this is the case what are the impacts of these thousands of prizes awarded to people who are working in different fields to contribute to the world dogged by different challenges. Then we can argue the laureates of these lucrative prizes and awards are failing to better the world which was much better earlier when there were hardly any big prizes like Nobel, Pulitzer, Booker, Badshah Faisal Prize, Humphrey etc- most of whom belong to the western world. That’s why we have our cover story on Nobel Prize. Hope you will like the story.
Hope to meet you next month.
