Dear Diary, I Feel Lost… -Md Mahmudur Rahman
The world moves incredibly fast when you reach seventeen years old. Rayan felt the clock ticking louder every single day as the final year of high school rushed toward its conclusion. The immense pressure of the upcoming graduation exams weighed heavily on his youthful shoulders. His classmates constantly talked about prestigious university applications and high-paying careers. Everyone seemed to know exactly who they wanted to become in the future. Rayan felt completely lost in the loud noise of expectations. He often wondered if his true identity was disappearing under the heavy demands of his teachers and parents. He felt tired and old despite his young age.
One chilly evening he sat at his wooden study desk and discovered a hidden treasure in his drawer. It was an old leather book that his grandfather had gifted him a year ago before passing away. The diary had an intricate golden pattern on the cover, and its pages smelled like ancient trees. Rayan remembered the final words of his grandfather, who had spoken with a bright smile. His grandfather had promised that this specific diary possessed a wonderful secret because it would never let its owner grow old. Rayan did not believe in magic objects anymore because he was a modern teenager. He decided to open the book anyway because he desperately needed a quiet place to hide his secret thoughts.
He picked up his favorite black ink pen and began to write about the heavy anxiety that gripped his chest. He wrote about the fear of failing the people who loved him. The words poured out of him like rain from a stormy sky. As his pen moved across the smooth paper, he experienced a sudden wave of relief. He realized that the diary was not just holding ink on paper. It was capturing a precise moment of his existence. It was keeping his memory completely awake and fresh. He closed the book and felt a strange spark of energy that he had not felt in months.
Days turned into weeks, and the leather book became his closest companion in the world. Rayan recorded everything that happened in his chaotic life. He wrote about the silly jokes his younger brother told at the dinner table. He detailed the crushing social pressure he experienced during the school lunch breaks. He observed his peers who wore masks of absolute confidence while they scrolled through social media. They laughed loudly and wore expensive clothes, but Rayan knew that many of them were also hurting inside. Whenever he felt overwhelmed by the fast pace of the world, he opened his diary. He read his past entries and realized how much he had grown in just a few weeks. The diary kept his past self alive so he never lost touch with his true identity.
One Friday night Rayan sat on his prayer mat after finishing his late prayers. The house was completely silent, and a soft breeze entered through the open window. He picked up his diary to write down his spiritual reflections. He thought about a beautiful lesson that his mother had taught him about the purpose of human life. This world is merely a temporary testing ground, and every struggle is a disguised blessing. He remembered the famous verse from the holy book, which states that Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. Rayan wrote that verse in large letters across the page.
The gentle Islamic reminder completely changed his perspective on his current struggles. He understood that his exam stress and his identity confusion were not meant to destroy him. They were designed by the Creator to build his character and strengthen his faith. He realized that true patience, which Muslims call “Sabr,” is not a sign of weakness. Sabr is a powerful form of courage that keeps the heart peaceful during hard times. He felt a deep sense of purpose wash over his soul because he knew that his ultimate goal was to please his Creator. His worldly success was important, but his spiritual health mattered much more.
He began to see the true meaning behind the promise of his grandfather. The diary keeps you young because it anchors your heart to eternal truths instead of temporary worldly anxieties. People grow old and bitter when they forget their pure childhood dreams. They become cold when they get caught up in the endless chase for wealth and status. By writing his deepest fears and his gratitude to Allah every day Rayan was preserving his pure youth. He was keeping his heart soft and his mind awake to the beauty of creation. He wrote a long promise to his future self that he would never let the harsh world change his kind nature.
The dreaded final exam week arrived with a sudden vengeance. The school hallways were filled with panicked students who drank too much coffee and muttered historical dates under their breath. Rayan walked into the massive examination hall and felt the familiar tightness in his chest. Instead of panicking, he closed his eyes and remembered the pages of his diary. He remembered his submission to the divine plan of the Almighty. He knew that he had studied diligently and that the final outcome belonged to Allah alone. A profound serenity filled his mind as he opened his test booklet. He wrote his answers with a steady hand and a confident heart.
A month later the final results were posted on the school bulletin board. Rayan walked through the crowd of students and found his name near the very top of the list. A huge smile broke across his face, and his heart overflowed with joy. He ran all the way home to share the wonderful news with his family, who celebrated with sweet treats. After the excitement settled down, he retreated to his quiet room. He opened his faithful leather diary and wrote a message of intense gratitude to the Creator for granting him success. He looked at the thick stack of pages he had filled during his darkest times. He smiled because he knew that his body would grow older with time but his spirit would remain forever young and vibrant.
