The Essence of the Holy Qur’an
Taqwa: What Truly Matters in Islam
“Take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is taqwa. Fear Me, o you who understand.”
(Al Quran, Baqarah, 2/197.)
Taqwa means being aware of Allah (swt) in everything we do. It means knowing that we are servants of Allah and that we have responsibilities toward Him and toward others. Taqwa is obeying Allah’s commands, trying to please Him, and staying away from actions that He dislikes. It also means following the way of Prophet Muhammad (saw), who was sent by Allah (swt) as the best example for us.
Through taqwa, a person receives Allah’s mercy and protection. Allah (swt) says:
“O believers! Fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims in submission to Him.”
True taqwa helps us remember that Allah (swt) is always watching us. Because of this, we try to act respectfully, speak kindly, and obey Him with love. A person with taqwa is careful not to do things that bring Allah’s (swt) anger and always prepares for the life after death. This is why Allah (swt) reminds us:
“O believers! Fear Allah. Let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow.”
In Islam, a person’s value is not measured by wealth, position, education, or family background. What matters most is taqwa. Allah (swt) clearly states:
“The most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.”
The best people are those who have strong faith, clean hearts, good character, and good deeds. They live with taqwa in their daily lives. Allah (swt) loves such people and promises them Paradise and many great rewards.
