Dear Subscribers,
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah. Hope this issue of the Youth Wave finds you in a good mood, though still Bangladesh is sifting through the junk of the former fascist government that ruled the country for 15 years. As the world steps into 2025, we stand at a pivotal moment in history, where resilience battles systemic oppression and hope dares to emerge from despair. The fall of despotic regimes in Bangladesh and Syria signals the power of collective action, yet the global journey toward justice remains fraught with challenges.
In Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina’s ouster marked a second independence for the nation. Years of authoritarian rule, characterized by corruption and suppression of dissent, left the country’s social and democratic fabric in tatters. However, the resilience of its people, led by youth and grassroots movements, offers a powerful blueprint for overcoming oppression.
The global narrative is similarly echoed in Syria. After years of unimaginable atrocities under Bashar al-Assad’s regime, his fall opens pathways for justice and reconciliation. Yet, the shadows of power vacuums and geopolitical complexities loom, threatening renewed instability.
These stories underscore the urgency of addressing systemic injustices worldwide. Whether it’s the children of Palestine enduring endless conflict or the disenfranchised of Myanmar fighting for dignity, the world’s oppressed demand accountability and action.
2025 must not be remembered merely as a year of political shifts but as one where humanity redefined its moral compass. To achieve this, the international community must confront complicity, hold enablers accountable, and strengthen global systems to protect the vulnerable.
The year ahead offers no guarantees, but it holds boundless potential—a call to transform resilience into lasting change and to write a new chapter of hope for generations to come. That’s why we have chosen the issue as the cover story in January. Happy New Year in Bangladesh after its second independence.
Hope to return to you next month, inshaAllah.
