Editorial
Dear Readers,
Assalamu alaikum. I hope this issue of Youth Wave finds you in the best of health and mental peace. Alas, our hopes may clash with the harsh reality as the merciless killing and maiming of children continue unabated across the globe, particularly in Palestine and Ukraine. Often, those who survive find themselves devoid of food, shelter, and education, enduring the shadows of trauma. The war has brought famine, stripping people of their natural innocence and radiant complexion through relentless bombing. Many have become orphans, with some fortunate enough to find refuge with extended families.
Children who have lost limbs to bombings or fires endure unending anguish. Tragically, some even die in their mothers’ wombs. While their peers in peaceful regions enjoy chocolates, outings, homework, playgrounds, and the warmth of their parents, those who survive may experience a flood of stress hormones in their bodies. Their toys still bring them joy, and cousins play hide and seek during vacations.
The Israeli military was recently listed among offenders by the United Nations for failing to protect children last year, according to Israel’s ambassador to the UN. A BBC report claims that Israel’s campaign against Hamas in Gaza resulted in the deaths of thousands of children, while many more are in dire need of humanitarian assistance. The UN Secretary-General’s annual list highlights the killing of children in conflict, the denial of access to aid, and the targeting of schools and hospitals.
As a result, we dedicated the cover story of this issue of your favorite magazine to children. We hope you find the story both compelling and thought-provoking.
We hope to return to you next month with a different pressing issue that threatens to disturb the peace of the planet.
