In the age of huge job losses by companies, the world is apprehending to taken over by technologies particularly the robots. If gadgets replace humans, what labourers will do to earn their daily bread. The society may descend into chaos of great unemployment, hunger, malnutrition, depression, deterioration in law and order. The countries may see mass upsurge and governments across the globe are likely to face stiffer opposition posed by the platforms of jobless journalists, designers, washers, teachers, content developers, engineers, coders, cleaners, website designers, accountants, planners etc. When big manufacturers start producing cottage industry products like puffed rice, small and medium entrepreneurs will have no jobs to do. All the money will be concentrated with the one per cent crorepatis, calling for the needs of decentralisation of wealth and the urge to up the purchasing capacity of the poor. Against the grim prospect of total despair because of the callous job cuts under different excuses, we are running the cover story of this issue ‘In the age of firing from jobs’. Two tremors killed at least 37 thousand and injured thousands, prompting the countries to send distress call for help. Bangladesh has responded quickly to the distress call by sending rescuers, medics, medicine etc. You can send your help through the Turkish and Syrian embassies in Dhaka.
