Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu. Hope you’re keeping well by the grace of Allah. This year when Bangladesh is celebrating its golden jubilee, India and Pakistan are going to mark the 75th year of their independence. Against the backdrop of press freedom, these aforesaid countries except India have been sliding in the press freedom index. Though India could retain its previous position but the country is at the risk of genocide.  The country has ranked in the top-15 highest-risk countries for the last five years. According to Early Warning Project, the Hindu fundamentalist BJP government’s systematic discrimination against the country’s Muslim minority has intensified. In the Muslim-majority territory of Jammu and Kashmir this Hindu-nationalist government has unleashed stringent anti-dissent measures. Mohammed Zubair, one of the co-founders of Alt News, was arrested as his fact checking website exposed BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma who maligned Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him). Many other journalists like Mohammed Zubair, Rana Ayyub, who exposed Home Minister Amit Shah over the Gujarat massacre. Rana Ayyub’s sting operation and reports were not published. Rana was refused by all the leading editors of India including her news organization Tehelka. So, we have made it the cover story for August. Hope you will like the story.
