Dear readers
Assalamu alaikum. Hope you are keeping well in the city like Dhaka which is dogged by many problems including groundwater depletion, concentration of wealth, traffic congestion, poor water supply and drainage system. Iraqi city Kufa was abandoned as ground water level depleted heavily. Chennai and Bangalore in India Cape Town in South Africa, Mexico City in Mexico, Cairo in Egypt, Tokyo in Japan, São Paulo in Brazil, Beijing in China, Melbourne in Australia, London in the United Kingdom and Jakarta in Indonesia are classified by the World Bank to face severe water crises. For a similar aquifer crisis, the Indonesian capital has already lost the livability status and new cities are in the making.
Dear subscribers
Usually the whole country in general and Dhaka in particular sees lots of festivals being organized in this time of the world. But the onslaught of the Covid-19, omicron etc virus have organized different saddening festivals replacing those of enjoyment, free and happy ones. These fearful festivals include vaccination, reign of virus panic, shortage of healthcare and ultimately infections and deluge of deaths. These problems have added to the neck-deep maladies of the society’s poor section and middle class.
I hope to return to you next month.
